NOTES TO ARTWORK
I made the initial artwork you can see taped to the frame in the photograph, [with the woman, and the words, “under the cover of stars and darkness let us all come undone”] as a very large artwork for a solo museum show I had in 2013 at Te Manawa, Museum of Art and History in PN. Last year I was having an private show in Wellington at lovely Lisa’s beautiful home, and happened to hang a small rough draft artwork of the piece I made for the musuem show to a frame and hung it underneath the wordsign aroha. I was immediately struck by how the two objects resonated with eachother, and made this photograph,
Because, really, aroha is exactly what we all hope to give and receive when we have the courage, under the cover of stars and darkness, to let it all come undone.
