PROOF [2-18 Dec 2010 @ KiSSS]

The text on the poster says: [ Once / in a room / we stood / and I / asked you / to undress / this photograph / it is/ PROOF ]

PROOF BY FLEUR WICKES

+ My portraits are proof / the person / I photographed / existed - at that moment in time / as seen / by me. + These portraits / are also / proof / that I / existed too / in/ that / same / moment. Over the last twenty years, my artwork has gradually become evidence of my life: of my thoughts and feelings and desires; of the reality and truth of my subjects; of the people I have met and loved along the way. These images/ printed / on / pieces of paper / and bits of glass / they / are my / precious / and hard-won / PROOF. +

In the studio entrance...

a whole stack of my proofs, kept over a decade, stapled to the wall. This forms a good cross-section of the commissioned portrait work I have done for my lovely clients.

THE POSTER SERIES...

I call this series my poster series because the text-photograph combination was inspired by the posters I see all over Wellington, which I love so much.

FRIDA DAVID LIVES HERE, 2010

22 July - 14 Aug | 10am til 6pm @ KiSSS

FRIDA DAVID LIVES HERE - A PORTRAIT IN 3d

Frida is a woman I would love to be and, at the same time, a woman I can't stand. She drinks too much, has too many parties, takes too many lovers in the hope Mr Goddamn Right will arrive on his hot horse... But she's got a heart as big as Texas and will do anything for the artists she champions - even open up her home for an exhibition...

This exhibition is an installation of fictional character Frida David's apartment. She is me, and also the me I wish I was. Making this show has opened me up in so many ways, and also has been as scary as hell. Check out the installation shots...

Don't you wish this was your table...

Frida's dinning room

Looking down from the lounge.

Beautiful photos in her dining room

Sexy women all up the stairs.

Frida's huge loft lounge...

Red bra and lover's tie.

Mirrors from a Japanese sauna.

She's got great taste in lamps.

No greater symbol.

The windows of her loft.

All the artist involved. So many, and so talented!
