JUST LIKE LOVE, 2010

When I stood beside Faye and Cam as they unwrapped the artwork in their beautiful kitchen, I looked at this result of months of work and felt like a piece of me was left there within it. A piece of me that represents my feelings about love and sex and happiness.

JUST LIKE LOVE was printed on the most beautiful black mirror glass. I love the way this artwork can't be photographed easily - the true feeling of it can't be caught unless you're standing right there in the room. And even then, the image shifts and changes with the light. Looking at it reminds me of a dream that I felt keenly but couldn't catch, just like love.

The starting point for this artwork was a beautiful daguerrotype [very old kind of photograph] Faye and Cam had seen in a Paris art gallery, and the addition of the ornaments on the corner of the frame referenced that. I love the combination of the cutting-edge technology used to print this image onto glass, alongside the fact that this reflective image is similar to what some of the first photographs ever made looked like.

Faye and Cam were so amazing to work with. They really were totally into the process of the shoot - Faye got her hair done, Cam got a new shirt, and Faye wore THE most amazing dress and shoes. And so how could I help but get an amazing series of images in the end...[PS: F+C, you are so hot!]
