Notes to the work: Made in counterpoint to “Red rose for us, 2019”, this artwork is about what’s left when love leaves. When someone you love dies, or leaves you. The shape of these petals represent the shape my heart was in at the time I made it. I had a red rose from my garden on the table in my workroom. Eventually, the petals began to fall. To make this artwork, I arranged the petals on a scrap of card I’d painted a beautiful colour . I then photographed the wee scene I had made, worked on it extensively in Photoshop to create the gorgeous colour, the areas of sharpness, the deep shadows, the light shadow too. I then blew it up very large. The scale is crucial in this image. Small quiet gentle rose petals made so large you can see every detail - kinda like how so many of the small quiet gentle private moments in our lives are writ large in our heart.
